Fitness walking is an exercise that most anyone can do. There is not any special equipment or training that is required. You just put one foot in front of the other. Even though everyone knows how to walk, being that it a natural thing to do, there is still a correct way to do fitness walking. The following is the most frequently asked questions about walking for health and fitness.
1. What time of the day should I walk?
The answers to that question would be any time of the day that best works for you. The time of day that I walk often depends on the time of the year. For example in the summer, I always prefer to walk early in the morning when it is cooler. But in the winter, I usually prefer walking in the afternoon right after lunch which is usually the warmer time of the day. During the fall and spring, I like walking in the late afternoons before the sun goes down. The question for you should be at what time is the most convenient time of the day for your situation.
2. What if I eat before walking for fitness, will that be a problem?
Usually that varies from one person to the next since some people might me more sensitive then others. Personally I prefer eating something before I go for my fitness walk to give me more energy. It is usually something light such as fruit or yogurt. Walking is not a strenuous exercise so it shouldn’t be a problem to eat something before fitness walking. Really it all depends upon how you feel.
3. If I walk a mile then how many calories will I burn?
A person that weighs around 150 pounds can often burn on an average of somewhere between 80 to 100 calories per mile. Of course many other things are also factored in as to how many calories are burned such as your weight, height, fitness level and where you walk whether it is on level ground or hills. What you wear and the temperature can also determine the amount of calories that you burn.
If you want to lose weight, then forget about how many calories that you burn. Instead you need to focus on changing your eating habits. Start a healthy eating plan that you can live with and get in the habit of exercising. If you don’t change to a healthy lifestyle then you are only going to gain back any weight that you’ve lost and maybe even more pounds once you go back to your old eating habits again.
Walking for health and fitness should be something that you enjoy doing. If you enjoy fitness walking then you are more apt to not put it off but start looking forward to your daily walk for fitness and health.
